Chad Spoon, Active Living Research, University of California, San Diego, USA
Chad Spoon Communications & Partnership Manager for Active Living Research (ALR), a program of the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, To address root causes of childhood obesity and physical inactivity, Chad Spoon assists and trains investigators and practitioners in the application of credible, action-oriented research results. Uniting individuals and organizations to create healthy, active communities, he is always seeking new private and public sector partnerships across the fields of planning, transportation, and public health. Chad heads the Microscale Audit for Pedestrian Streetscapes (MAPS) training program for ALR. He has led a number of MAPS trainings and is trained as a gold standard trainer. He has conducted MAPS audits across the country for research projects as well. Chad represents ALR on the Safe Routes to School National Partnership’s Active Places national Shared Use Task Force and national Active Transportation Diversity Task Force. He received his Master’s of Regional Planning with specialization in transportation and land use management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a former board member of San Diego’s local pedestrian advocacy group, WalkSanDiego. A former distance runner, he now stays active with soccer, yoga and biking.
